There was a long uncontrolled traffic after Eid in Mussoorie this weekend on Sunday 08-06-2025 due to which many vehicles ran out of fuel according to a local vendor.
May, June and July are months of peak season in Mussoorie. Many tourists come from far and wide to enjoy beauty and pleasant weather of Mussoorie.
However, during this time, visitors often face long traffic jams stretching up to 5 to 10 kilometers up hill. These massive jams not only cause extreme exhaustion to tourists but also waste valuable time plus also lead to vehicle breakdowns in many cases due to burning of clutch plates, radiator problems, etc.
Petrol Pump runs out of fuel in Mussoorie
This weekend on Sunday, tourists reached Mussoorie to spend holiday from different places of India after Bakri-Eid.
During the post-Eid holidays, thousands of tourists arrived in Mussoorie to enjoy their vacation, leading to a massive crowd of vehicles. The cars in number was too much which lead uncontrolled traffic After Eid in Mussoorie and petrol pumps were out of fuels.
Many vehicles were seen to be in standby position near fuel stations. Locals were also suffering from this crisis as Mussoorie have only two main petrol stations in Kingrate.
“We came from Delhi and got stuck in traffic for nearly 3 hours. Our car almost broke down, said a tourist”.
Delhi man dies due to traffic jam
According to recent sources, a Delhi man named Kamal Kishore Tandon aged 62 year old died after their vehicle got stuck in Mussoorie traffic while being rushed towards hospital. The man suddenly got ill due to immediate weather change in Mussoorie after which he was rushed towards hospital but due to weekend traffic jam they got stuck in traffic-time passed by and died.
Police were trying to clear traffic but it was so overcrowded that it was difficult to reach hospital in time. They were delayed by 45 minutes.
Bypass routes has no Petrol Stations
Most heaviest traffic is usually seen on Library Road which appears for more than 6 hours a day as Library Road connects to various key locations like Mall Road which tourists visits often as it has most hotels, famous restaurants, shopping areas and Library Chowk.
Library Road also connects to Company Garden, and Kempty Falls. Although there is a separate bypass route to reach Kempty Falls and Company Garden but in that this bypass route does not have a single petrol pump. Because of this, most people prefer to travel via the main Library Road, which passes through Kingrate — an area where two main petrol stations of Mussoorie are located.
Ropeway and Shuttle service to decrease traffic in Mussoorie
Police is taking preventing measures to decrease traffic coming to Mussoorie. There are Shuttle Services implemented for tourist to avoid overcrowding in Mussoorie. As tourists can park their vehicle on parking located at Kingrate but this parking is very far from hotels and main Mall Road due to which Tourists prefer not to park their vehicles there.
Ropeway is in ongoing process. It is going to be the longest ropeway of the India which will connect from Dehradun to Mussoorie and is said to reduce travel time to just 15 to 20 minutes. It can be operated in September 2026. It will be great decision to overcome traffic problem in Mussoorie which will benefit both tourists and local people.

This post-Eid weekend of Sunday in Mussoorie turned hectic due to large number of tourists which lead to long traffic jams and fuel shortages. While the scenic beauty of Mussoorie remains quiet and wonderful ,the rising crowd during peak season of June will remain continue.
